Dr. Joy Stephens
Dr. Joy Stephens is a licensed psychologist who conducts individual and group psychotherapy. She takes a relational approach to conceptualize and develop approaches that foster effective change. Dr. Stephens is often described as calming and present, often utilizing mindfulness and meditation to help others deal with thoughts and feelings as well as cultivate self-compassion and acceptance. Her approach also reflects a commitment to the exploration of intersectionality or the ways in which issues of identity and social systems impact experiences.
Dr. Stephens accepts appointments at our Maryland location.
Education: Dr. Stephens earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Indiana University (APA Accredited), with a minor in Higher Education and Student Affairs. She received a Master of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Purdue University. In addition, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology from the University of Dayton.
Internship: Dr. Stephens completed her APA accredited Pre-Doctoral Internship in Counseling and Consultation Services at The Ohio State University.
